The 1992 law

On 2 July 1992 Türkiye adopted Law No. 3835 “On the Admission and Settlement of Ahıska Turks in Türkiye”. Under it and after it about 50,000 people moved to the country — most of all to Bursa, and also to Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Aydın, Çanakkale, Denizli and other cities.

Donbas — Erzincan, 2015

Because of the fighting in eastern Ukraine, Türkiye took in Ahıska Turkish families from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and built housing for them. The first settlers arrived in Erzincan on 25 December 2015. Under the settlement plan 595 families settled in Üzümlü (Erzincan) and another 72–82 families in Ahlat on the shore of Lake Van.

Today

Türkiye runs a long-term residence programme for Ahıska Turks. How to walk this road step by step is in Where to look for your people; lived experience is with those who have done it, in the community. Official applications go only through Türkiye’s state services.
