ahiska.club is the digital home of the Ahıska Turks. A list of “who is Ahıska and where they live” once became a tool of deportation, so we collect as little as possible about people and show it only to those a person has allowed.

What we store

To sign in: email, password (only as an irreversible hash), date of birth (the site is open from age 16). If you sign in with Google, Google tells us only your email, name and profile photo; we never see your Google password.

What you add yourself: name, family village, family tree, voice recordings, names in the Book of Memory, posts in the Yard, messages to family and circle. City, phone, school — optional.

There is no “nationality” field on the site. The lineage you mention at the threshold is not saved.

Who sees it

Everything about people is visible only inside the house and by circles of trust: family → my circle → all our people. You choose who sees what in your profile, and the “Mirror” shows your page through the eyes of each circle.

A guest from the internet sees no people of the house at all: public pages never load people from the database. A misafir (registered on their own and confirmed their email) sees other misafirs and, once someone has vouched for them, those members who allowed it — only name, photo, village and “about me”. A misafir can hide themselves with one button.

Minors are not findable in search and are not shown in “All our people”. A photo of a living person may be added only with their consent.

What we never do

We do not sell or hand over people’s data to anyone. No ads, no ad trackers, no third-party analytics.

We do not store visitors’ IP addresses. The visit counter keeps only daily totals: country (looked up on our own server with the open DB-IP database), phone or computer, and where people came from.

Documents for a check, and the Kismet application

A check by a keeper is optional. The document you attach is stored encrypted, only the keepers of the house can open it, and every opening is logged — you see how many times it was viewed. After approval the files are kept for another 30 days so keepers can re-check, then erased automatically; after a refusal — at once, without a decision — after 30 days. What remains permanently is the mark “checked by a keeper”, the date and the verification record — who checked what (document type, name, face, year of birth), not the document itself. You may cover the document number: we only need to be sure the name is real.

Only the keepers of the house see a Kismet application: your status (never married / divorced / widowed) and how you want to search. There is no profile, and participants do not see each other. You can withdraw the application at any time.

Where data lives and who helps

The database and files are on the project’s own server. Backups are kept for a limited time (30 days on the server) and only the founder can access them.

To run the house we use a few services, each receiving only what it needs: Resend sends emails (address and email text); Google Gemini answers the Keeper and transcribes a voice recording when you press “transcribe” (the question or recording, without your profile), and translates posts and replies in the yard into the reader’s language (only the text of the post — no name, village or date; private messages and chats are not translated; the translation is kept by us and deleted with the post); Telegram — alerts to Watch keepers (no names); browser push services — the notification text, if you turned them on yourself (for Kismet only “you have something new”).

Until 18 October 2026 the site ran on Vercel and Neon (USA); their copy as of that day is kept closed as a backup.

Cookies

Only the necessary ones: a sign-in cookie and a language cookie. Settings (large text, music) are kept in your browser.

Your rights

Download all your data in one file: Profile → “My data”.

Delete your profile: same place. You have a week to change your mind; then your profile, your tree, recordings and posts are erased. Names that relatives wrote into their own trees and names in the Book of Memory remain — they are their families’ memory. If you need to disappear at once, tick “erase now”.

Correct or hide anything about yourself in your profile at any time.

Questions about data: support@ahiska.club or the support page.
